Thurrock International Film Festival 2012


 

The exciting Thurrock International Film Festival runs from Sunday 24th - Saturday 30th June, with individual events costing £3 each, which you can buy from the Thameside Theatre and also from ThurrockFilm.co.uk. You can see the lot with a festival pass for £28.

Some of the events going on across Thurrock include:

Event: A History of filmmaking in Thurrock talk
Location: London Cruise Terminal, Tilbury
When: Monday 25th June at 3:50-5:00pm
What: An exciting and intriguing talk by local historian Jon Catton, on the vibrant history of filmmaking in Thurrock. Starting with the silent masters and covering all the way up to present day.

Event: Music Video and Experimental category screening
Location: Palmers College, Grays
When: Wednesday 27th June at 5:00-7:00pm
What: This screening boasts some of the most artistic and ‘out there’ films submitted. Remember you can vote for the Audience Choice Award at this screening. PLEASE NOTE: some of the films featured in this screening may not be suitable for young children due to adult themes and strong language.

Event: The Wizard of Oz
Location: Gateway Academy, Grays
When : Wednesday 27th June at 7:30pm - 10pm
What: The 1939 classic starring Judy Garland in her breakout role as Dorothy Gale, the Kansas girl who is swept into a world of magic, wonder and terror. Come enjoy this special one-off screening and walk down the yellow brick road. Just don’t take off the Ruby Slippers!

Event: Under 16 and Student category screening
Location: Palmers College, Grays
When: Friday 29th June at 5:00-7:00pm
What: The best of the films submitted by today’s most promising talent. Remember you can vote for the Audience Choice Award at this screening. PLEASE NOTE: some of the films in the latter half of this screening may not be suitable for young children due to strong language and mild violence.

Event: Singin' in the Rain
Location: Thameside Theatre, Grays
When:  Friday 29th June at 7:00-8:40pm
What: A special one-off screening of the classic musical. Pre-dating ‘The Artist’ it deals with the invention of sound in Hollywood in the 20’s. Starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donal O’Connor  and featuring much loved songs like ‘Good Morning’, ‘Make ‘Em Laugh’ and of course ‘Singing In The Rain’, spend the evening with the crème de la crème of old Hollywood.

Event: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Location: Thameside Theatre, Grays
When: Friday 29th June at 9:00-11:00pm
What: A cult classic, we follow our hero Indy as he battles Nazis trying to rescue his father and stop Hitler getting his hands on the Holy Grail. This special one-off screening is your chance to see Indy where he belongs, on the big screen.

Event: Spirited Away
Location: Thameside Theatre, Grays
When: Saturday 30th June at 12:00-2:00pm
What: A Modern classic from Japan. In this animated film a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where humans are changed into animals.

Event: Fiction Category screening
Location: Thameside Theatre, Grays
When: Saturday 30th June at 3:00-5:00pm
What: Our selection of the best Fiction films include a film about feet, broth, buddies, a hotel room and a retired golfer. It is not to be missed! Remember you can vote for the Audience Choice Award at this screening. PLEASE NOTE: some of the short films featured in this category may not be suitable for under 15's due to course language and violence.

Event: Awards Ceremony
Location: Thameside Theatre, Grays
When: Saturday 30th June at 7:00-10:00pm
What: A star-studded event where the winning films from each category are announced and the awards presented by VIPs to the festival.
